What is the Difference Between a Portrait and a Headshot?
Within this industry, it is commonplace to include a headshot with your resume. By definition, a headshot image is a portrait of one single person; the primary focus should be on that person, and no one else should be in the shot. We recommend that you wear solid- and/or muted-colored clothing. Try to stay away from busy patterns and textured fabrics. This is the light that skims the side of the face or body. It helps to separate the subject from the background and is the mark of a more sophisticated light setup. Because rim lighting is typically customized to the individual, you’ll be less likely to see this type of lighting in higher volume projects.
